The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union intend to amend the Visa Information System (VIS), which will be fully compatible with other databases, which will make it possible to check in more detail the applicant for a Schengen visa and residence permit in the EU countries.
The new system will include a number of reliable tools to protect personal data, including biometric ones. In addition, the new system will strengthen security checks across all European databases - each visa application will be verified through the European Search Portal.
We remind you that VIS is a database, thanks to which a connection has been established between border guards at the external borders of the European Union with consulates of the EU member states around the world. This system was launched in 2015.
The improvement of the Visa Information System will help to identify those persons who pose a risk and threat in terms of security or violations of migration rules and regulations. The new system is scheduled to be commissioned at the end of 2023.
